We operate three quarries in the mountain range that separates the towns of Markina-Xemein and Aulesti. These three quarries extract the vast majority of the marble known as "Negro Markina," as well as its gray varieties. The two main quarries (LEKOITZ and JAIME) account for more than 50% of the total existing production of Negro Markina.
In the small UGARTETXEA quarry, a very distinctive Negro Markina is extracted, which is highly recognizable in the international market for its characteristic lively white veining and unique combinations.
Our DUQUESA-URKULU quarry exploits a specific limestone vein, oriented North-South, on which small artisanal operations have historically been located. This ornamental rock has been highly valued since ancient times for its strength and compactness and has traditionally been used throughout the region for both construction and the production of elements related to rural sports. Formally exploited since the 1930s, this quarry exclusively produces the well-known Gris Duquesa and Gris Deba marbles, as well as their pink and dark gray varieties.
